I used "Knot Racing" in my blog and the other forum, based on an email address I had at the time, based on the boat I sold before starting this crazy i550 adventure. Sorry to cause the confusion- I could have planned ahead a little, knowing "the Knot" wasn't going to be relevant any longer after I signed up for the i550 experience...

Finally shipped the bulb plug today. Turns out boxes and post office hours are in short supply in this small town. The things you don't think of....

I know that in my wife's home town you can always find beer cases. But that's about it in the "free box" area. :-)

How excellent that the new class plug is now making it's way to new destinations. Maybe we should call it "the Beav" :-). Thanks Chad for creating the bulb.

We have these paper and cardboard recycling bins around town, run by an outfit that helps disabled folks. You feel like a prick if you just go and take a box, when it's their main source of income. So I waited until I had a load of paper and grabbed a box in trade. Sort of like making change from the collection plate at church? Yeah, that's probably not looked on too well either...

T: concise? Uh oh, not my plan at all. That's why I hid a rig discussion in a bulb thread. That's why folks are saying "beav" when they really mean pu... -well, let's not be too concise about that one either!

Chad, I received the plug today,it looks great thanks. I will be having eye surgery On Thursday the 23rd so hopefully I will be able to cast my concrete mold this weekend or at least early next week. I will forward the plug to Phil who I think is next in line.
Thanks again.

Noel,

I left a private message for you but didn't hear back. How is the bulb mold going? Any chance that you're going to forward the plug soon? If not, I'll probably have to build my own plug. The keel bulb is now on the critical path for my project. Let me know, so that I'll know what direction to go.

Phil.
I poured the first half today and will pour the next tomorrow. Sorry for the delay but I have been having vision problems since my surgery. After drying out for a few days I will strip the forms and get the plug out to you.

Noel,

Thanks for the reply. That would be fine.

I hope that your pour is going well, and that your vision issues are going away.

The bulb plug showed up at my house today - it looks great. I'm planning on casting the mold in the next few days. Is there someone else out there who wants the plug after I'm done with it?

Of course, thanks are due to Chad for creating this fish and to Noel for forwarding it on to me.

Bulb and plug.jpg

I cast the keel bulb the other day using a mold that I made from Chad's beaver tail bulb plug. I think that I worked to slowly and I have some layering in the cast and the top of the plug (actually the bottom since it was cast upside down) had some voids that needed to be filled with additional lead. This created a pretty rough surface that needed to be filled with fairing compound. Anyway the picture above shows the bulb with it's "father".

Looks good! Don't worry, I think most of us had to add a little fairing compound to get it smooth (me more than others)! One more step done!

Have no fear. That bulb looks totally awesome compared to what I started with fresh from the mold.

Just a reminder about burying the attachment bolts in the blade for both top and bottom bolts
For 3/8" or 9 mm bolts 8 inches is a safe minimum for two bolts. Overbore by 1/8" or 3 mm.
Wet out holes and then fill with colloidal silica or high strength filleting blend.
